Last night the air was wonderfully crisp, cool and comfortable. Kate wanted to walk to the arena from her parents house to pick up an devents schedule. As she was tying her shoes she looked to me and said "Are you coming with me or do I have to walk alone?" I went. It's not a long walk, but we did plenty of talking on the way. When ever we're walking or exercising we seem to talk about health. She made the comment that it would be cool for someone to walk here every day of the year, and to write about it. Here not many people walk, even in the most comfortable months of summer. People will drive four blocks to get milk if it's twenty-five degrees and calm as could be. We agreed that is not a healthy lifesyle. After talking more and some thinking about it I decided to take the challenge. It's not a big deal, I am simply deciding to use a more sustainable way of commuting. I am not giving up the use of all vehicles entirely. If we decide to go out of town, say to Waskesiu or Saskatoon, I will drive with Kate rather than walk along side her. That being said this coming spring/summer I am planning on riding my bike to Waskesiu and Hopefully Saskatoon. What rules I have are flexible, as the goal of this is to show people that walking is both practical and possible all year long, I am not using this a protest against crude oil or anything like that. I am simply encouraging a healthier lifestyle, and would love to see people join me in this. Now, origionally I was planning on making it my "New Years Resolution", which Kate replied to with "Don't be such a wuss, if you don't start now you know you never will." So Today I walked.
